Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213).
We celebrate Baptisms for the children of our students, alumni, resident community members, and faculty and staff. Both parent(s) and godparent(s) must attend a Baptism preparation class, either at the UCC or elsewhere, unless they have done so in the past two years. Godparents, since they are meant to support the parents of the child in raising him/her in the faith, must be at least 16 years old and be baptized and confirmed Catholics fully practicing their faith. If married, they must be married validly in the Church.
If you would like to receive preparation as parents or Godparent(s) of a child to be baptized:
Please fill out the form below to register for our next class. The next Baptism Preparation Class is Sunday, June 25th , 3pm-4pm, 2nd Floor Library. A $40 donation is suggested for materials.
Please fill out the Infant Baptism Request Form and Godparent forms, found here. These forms must be submitted at least one week prior to the baptism, in addition to a copy of the child's birth certificate and proof of completion of a baptism prep class within the last 2 years for each parent and Godparent.
If you would like to baptize your child here at the UCC, please email Holly Hunt. Baptisms are normally scheduled on Saturdays at 11:30am or on Sundays (except 2nd and 4th Sundays) at 3:30pm.
Please note that all sacramental records for the University Catholic Center are kept at St. Austin Parish. Please contact them if you are in need of a record.
