Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213).
We celebrate Baptisms for the children of our students, alumni, resident community members, and faculty and staff. Both parent(s) and godparent(s) must attend a Baptism preparation class, either at the UCC or elsewhere, unless they have done so in the past two years. Godparents, since they are meant to support the parents of the child in raising him/her in the faith, must be at least 16 years old and be baptized and confirmed Catholics fully practicing their faith. If married, they must be married validly in the Church.
If you would like to receive preparation as parents or Godparent(s) of a child to be baptized, please fill out the form below to register for our next class.
During the summer, we schedule Baptisms for Sundays, after the 10:30am Mass. Click here for the Infant Baptism Request Form and Godparent forms. These forms must be submitted at least one week prior to the baptism. To schedule a Baptism or for questions, please email Holly Hunt.
The next Baptism Preparation Class is Sunday, June 19th, 3pm. A $40 donation is suggested for materials.
Please note all sacramental records for the University Catholic Center are kept at St. Austin Parish. Please contact them if you are in need of a record.
