Fr. Fernando was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, to a family that taught him how to pray and how to love. After beginning his undergraduate studies in Monterrey, he decided to transfer to the University of Texas, where he graduated in 2014 with a BS in Computer Science. His time at the UCC led him to reencounter Jesus, and attending SEEK 2013 was a pivotal moment in falling more in love with the Lord. During his last semester of college, his two best friends who were also from Monterrey and also studying at UT told him that they were going to enter seminary. This surprising news eventually led him to discern his own vocation soon after graduation, so he quit the software engineering job that he had recently started in Chicago and moved back to Austin in 2012 to enter seminary under the guidance of Fr. Jonathan Raia as
vocation director. After attending seminary in Dallas and Houston, he was ordained a priest in June 2022 and was assigned to the University of Texas as Associate Chaplain. He is very excited to use the first fruits of his priestly life to give back to the community that so shaped his relationship with God.
